Snow Sculpture Photo Contest Rules

Submissions:

You must be 18 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible for this contest. This contest is void where prohibited by law.

All photos must have been taken in the 2009-2010 winter season.

Employees and contractors of The Roanoke Times, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members (defined as parents, spouse, children, siblings, grandparents, and/or any person with whom they are domiciled) of each are not eligible. People who meet this definition cannot be depicted in any photo entered in the contest.

By entering the contest and submitting a photo, each entrant has represented that the entrant is the copyright owner of the photo or has written permission from the copyright owner to enter the photo in the contest and to grant The Roanoke Times all rights necessary to use the photo in the contest, and that the entrant has granted to The Roanoke Times an irrevocable license to edit, publish, republish, distribute and copy the photo and/or the edited photo an unlimited number of times in any print, electronic or other medium and that the entrant has obtained from anyone identified or depicted in the photo (or the parent or guardian of any child identified or depicted) all permission necessary to grant The Roanoke Times the foregoing license.

The Roanoke Times has the right to reject or disqualify a photo for any reason.

Selection of Winners:

Voting will take place beginning at 12:01 a.m. on March 13 to 11:59 p.m. on March 21, 2010 and will be selected by popular vote.

Ties will be broken by The Roanoke Times.

Winners will be notified by telephone or email on or about March 23, 2010. Winners must respond to the notification no later than March 28, 2010, or an alternative winner will be selected.

Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

Prizes:

One Grand Prize winner - based on the number of votes - will receive a Target Gift Card valued at $50.

The second place winner will receive a Walmart Gift Card valued at $25. An Editor's Choice winner will receive a Kroger Gift Card valued at $25.

The three winning photos will be published on roanoke.com and in The Roanoke Times at least once beginning the week of March 29, 2010 .

Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.

Entrants further grant to The Roanoke Times the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the contest.

The Roanoke Times reserves the right to use any and all information related to the contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

The contest and all of the related pages, contents and code are copyright, UPICKEM, Inc., and/or The Roanoke Times. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.

Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize.

The Roanoke Times and Upickem are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God.

All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to notification from The Roanoke Times.

Each winner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes and will be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold prizes until completed form W-9 is received.

This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
